Superior Coaching Systems®

The systems he built, by name.

He wrote them with Vanessa Summers-Gyulai for high school and club coaches around the country. At SJVC he runs them himself, on every court.

  • What Great Looks Like®The standard, in detail: what a great pass, approach, serve and teammate look like, so she can see it, repeat it back and hold herself to it.
  • It’s Bigger Than Volleyball®A life lesson at the end of every practice, by design: communication, goal-setting, learning from mistakes, asking for what you want.
  • Superior Coaching Systems®The name for how practice is run: written standards and systems, the same on every court every night, so every coach coaches the same way.
  • VPT – Volleyball Pattern Training®Strength and mobility work shaped like volleyball: the squat she passes from and the throw she hits with, trained under load.
  • Read The Game, Slow The Game, And Eliminate Pressure®Seeing the play before it happens, so the game feels slower and the pressure comes off.
  • Whole Person Growth®Confidence built from self-image, self-ideal and self-concept, not from a scoreboard.
  • Here Is Only We®The words over the front door. On this team there is no “I”.
  • S.O.S. – Stress Output Score®, C.A.R.E.®, Do Your Share®, Bump Up®, Team Love Bank®The rest of the toolkit, for pressure, connection, effort and team culture.
Volleyball Pattern Training®
