The club building on US-1 North under a cloudy sky, the seal on the wall
6940 US-1 North, St. Augustine

The club’s own building.

Purpose-built for youth volleyball: three courts on one side, everything that makes a player on the other.

From arrival to departure.

Club practices, tryouts, Academy sessions and summer camps all run here, in a building the club built for itself.

The walk below follows the route a player takes on a practice night: in through the front door, past reception and the lobby, the strength room and the coach’s glass office at its corner, the mindset room, the locker rooms, and out onto the three courts. The plan beside this is traced from the architect’s drawings, so what you see here is what is built.

HERE IS ONLY WE® over the door and the gold hands on it. It is the first thing she reads walking in and the first standard she is held to: on this team, there is no “I”. Free parking right outside.

    Reception and the lobby

The front desk is just inside the door, with seating for families and an open view into the strength room. The staff offices run along the hall behind it. Parents can wait here or sit courtside.

  3. The glass-walled office at the corner of the strength room, the rig beyond the glass
    03

    The strength coach’s office

A glass-walled office at the corner of the strength room, so the coach running the floor can see every rack and every rep from the desk, and a player can find him without leaving the room.

  4. The strength room seen from the doorway: racks, rig and bikesA camp group seated along the strength-room wall with a coach
    04

    The strength room

Racks, a cable rig, rowers, air bikes, dumbbells and a wall of medicine balls. This is the home of Volleyball Pattern Training®: the squat she passes from and the throw she hits with, trained under load so she gets stronger and safer in the movements she plays. Every club practice, Gold to Elite, starts with thirty minutes in here before two hours on the court; the Academy builds in more, and summer camps an hour a day.

  5. The cardio room: stair climber, bikes and a treadmillRows of dumbbells on a rack
    05

    Cardio and the details

Stair climber, bikes and a treadmill in the cardio room for warm-ups and conditioning; dumbbells and kettlebells for the strength work.

  6. The mindset room: herringbone floor, cubbies of mats and a wall screenThe mindset room cubbies and screen, photographer’s select
    06

    The mindset room

Room 133 on the plan, behind the locker rooms: a quiet room with a laminate floor, mats in the cubbies and a screen on the wall, for team meetings, parent meetings, goal-setting, breathing, visualization and the end-of-practice life lesson. It exists because It’s Bigger Than Volleyball® is a schedule, not a slogan.

  7. Coach Andor beside a court-side screen, pointing at the replay
    07

    The review screens

Screens beside the courts replay each rep on a short delay, so she sees her own arm swing or platform a few seconds after she made it, while the coach is still talking about it. Coaches can mic up so a whole group hears the same cue.

    08

    The locker rooms

A women’s and a men’s locker room, each with lockers, benches, a long sink and showers, between the strength room and the courts. She can come straight from school and go straight to dinner.

    The courts

Three full courts side by side on a blue sport floor, across the building from the front door, where every practice and tryout runs. Under the court tile is something most gyms leave out: five millimetres of rubber padding between the plastic tile and the concrete slab. The owner of one of the biggest clubs in the country told Coach Andor her players were having knee problems from tile laid straight on concrete, and recommended the padding; it went in before the first practice, so a player who trains many hours a week lands on a floor that gives. Three courts is also why rosters close: each team has the spots the courts can hold, and no more.

The mission statement, in the mindset roomWe develop curious, communicative, goal-setting, grateful, self-directed, critical-thinking lifelong learners who thrive in competition and under pressure, who know how to work as individuals and with a team as a member or a leader while being fair and considerate of others.

Here Is Only We® is the belief: when a player steps into this space, individual ego gives way to shared purpose. No “me before we”, no hiding behind talent alone. Every athlete belongs, is responsible, is supported, is accountable. The energy that follows when a group lives that way is the thing you feel on a practice night.
