Moving to St. Augustine, looking for volleyball?

The club’s three indoor courts are in St. Augustine itself, on US-1 North, eleven minutes from downtown. This page is for the family that just arrived.

The St. Johns Volleyball Club building from its parking lot on US-1 North
6940 US-1 North, St. Augustine, FL 32095

A St. Augustine address, on the road every family already drives.

US-1 runs straight through St. Johns County. The building sits on it north of the city, which puts it about eleven minutes from downtown St. Augustine, fourteen from World Golf Village, fifteen from Nocatee, eighteen from SilverLeaf and twenty from St. Johns Town Center. Palencia is a few minutes up the road. Free parking at the door, no gate, no school lot.

The club started in 2022 on the grass at Nocatee Fields. When it came time to build, Coach Andor and Vanessa chose St. Augustine: the oldest city in the country, a town that already loved the beach, the water and the outdoors, and one where a volleyball club could belong to the place rather than to a strip mall.

Why here, in their words

Three reasons the club is in St. Augustine.

  • A beach town makes beach players.Beach volleyball is a high school sport in St. Johns County now, and the county built the sand courts at Nocatee. A club here can run indoor and beach in one program, which is exactly what the U15-1 Academy does.
  • Families move here on purpose.Nocatee, World Golf Village, Palencia, SilverLeaf: people come to St. Johns County for the schools and the outdoors. Most of our players had never played club volleyball before. They had played on the beach.
  • A place with a story asks you to tell one. It’s Bigger Than Volleyball® is easier to teach in a town where the fort is older than the country. We wanted the club to be part of the place: the building on US-1, the seal on the wall, the door that says Here Is Only We®.

The town, if you are new here.

Six places every family ends up at in the first month. Practice is a short drive from all of them.

Aerial view of the Castillo de San Marcos and Matanzas Bay

Castillo de San Marcos

The 1695 Spanish fort on the bay. Four hundred years of people arriving by water, and the reason the whole town faces east.

The Bridge of Lions across Matanzas Bay

The Bridge of Lions

Downtown to Anastasia Island, past the two marble lions. Drive it once at sunset and you understand why people move here.

The black-and-white striped St. Augustine Lighthouse

The Lighthouse

On Anastasia Island, 219 steps up. Still lit. The kids count the steps; the parents count the view.

St. George Street with its flags, shops and a fountain

St. George Street

The pedestrian street through the old town: shops, fudge, pirates, a fort at one end and the city gates at the other.

The Flagler College courtyard and fountain, once the Ponce de Leon Hotel

Flagler College

Henry Flagler’s 1888 hotel, now a college. The courtyard is where every visiting grandparent gets their photo taken.

The Plaza

The oldest public square in the country, with the Ponce de León statue, the cathedral, and the Christmas lights in December.

If you just moved to St. Augustine.

Call or text Coach Andor. Tell him her grade and whether she has played. He will tell you whether the next step is a grass class in Nocatee, a club tryout at the facility, or the beach track, and he answers his own phone.
